Edit Overflow
Edit Overflow is an application for helping with the
mondane aspects of editing
Stack Overflow and other
Stack Exchange sites posts.
For instance, quick (using the clipboard and
keyboard shortcuts) correction of common spelling
mistakes for things (programming languages, software
products, company names, and hardware).
Edit Overflow's first incarnation is a
.NET
Windows desktop application, but it is planned to
appear on various platforms (Windows, Linux, web,
mobile).
Current version: Edit Overflow v. 0.62 (2012-05-07) for Windows
(122 KB 7-Zip archive with an EXE file).
It is an alfa version
(relatively stable, but feature incomplete) and requires .NET 2.0 or later.
(In ZIP format.)
Documentation: none at the moment (input and output
is in many cases the clipboard, for instance the
commands with keyboard shortcuts F5 and F7).
Changes since the last version (0.61):
- The link utility is now easier to use:
a. Generating a link will now increase the
counter by 1 and explicitly setting it
is no longer necessary.
b. The index number is now remembered
across invocations of the link utility
(for an entire session of Edit
Overflow) and thus the need to set or
change it is diminished.
c. Looking up a term and generating the
corresponding link can now be done in
one step instead of two: menu item
Action/"Insert in "Look up" field,
lookup and open Markdown utility"
(keyboard shortcut Ctrl+F5).
d. There are now menu commands and
associated keyboard shortcuts to set
focus in the primary input fields,
"Link text" and "URL"
(menu Edit/"Select Link Text field" and
menu Edit/"Select URL field").
- Added: utility to format text as keyboard keys (wrap text in <kbd></kbd>) -
menu Action/"Insert in "Look up" field and format as &keyboard (HTML)"
- Deleted: The feature to reveal the content of deleted
questions introduced in the last version was
removed because it no longer works at Stack
Exchange.
- Added: first version of a menu Help/About.
- Added more words (now at 1693 input words and
741 output words).
To be implemented before a version 1.0 release:
- Reworked user interface (the current is only
experimental). For instance, break into
several types of windows or a tabbed
interface.
- User defined wordlist
- Import and export facilities for the wordlist
- Partial matching, at least when something is typed into the look-up field
- Support for all Stack Exchange sites
- Remember settings across program restarts
